For decades Jeep has stood for versatile SUVs. A compact option like the Jeep Compass brings you that same reliable performance but in an autobody that gives you an exciting, agile drive. So, how do you know if it’s right for you?
Stateline Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram put together this 2018 Jeep Compass review to show drivers in Somerset and New Bedford what this sporty compact SUV has to offer.
2018 Jeep Compass Performance
The 2018 Jeep Compass is a terrific blend of sporty performance in a versatile SUV. Under the hood it runs on a 2.4L I4 Tigershark® engine that gets up to 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque.
There’s a selection of available transmissions to work with the engine including a 6-speed manual, 6-speed Aisin automatic with AutoStick® for manual shifting without a clutch, and a versatile 9-speed automatic.
For whatever you choose, your engine will get the assistance of the MultiAir®2 valvetrain. It helps make the engine and drivetrain more efficient. This results in great fuel economy and allows the 2018 Jeep Compass to get an EPA-estimated 32 MPG highway.
2018 Jeep Compass Off-Road Capability
In addition to efficient fuel economy and a sporty engine, the Jeep Compass is fully equipped to go off-roading. There’s two available 4×4 systems that are capable of tackling whatever terrain is in your path.
The first is the Jeep® Active Drive 4×4 System. It has a rear axle disconnect to switch between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive when conditions call for it. You can also manually adjust the drivetrain by using the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System. Just turn a knob on your dashboard and you can switch between four modes: Auto, Snow, Sport, and Sand/Mud.
The second option is the Jeep® Active Drive Low 4×4 System. It features low range and a 20:1 crawl ratio for added traction and control. It also adds Rock Mode, as the fifth mode one your Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System for even more capable off-roading.
Whichever system you choose, your 2018 Jeep Compass will be well equipped for the outdoors. Its design is made to get you up and over obstacles. With 8.5 inches of ground clearance it can attack hills with a 30.3-degree approach angle, plus thanks to underbody sealing, you’ll be able to drive through up to 19 inches of water.
2018 Jeep Compass Cargo Room
Inside the Jeep Compass, you’ll find comfortable seating for five people and lots of convenient cargo room. There’s 41.8 inches of front legroom and 38.3 inches of rear legroom. Behind that, there’s 27.2 cubic feet of space in the trunk.
There’s easy access to this accommodating trunk with a power liftgate and height-adjustable cargo floor to conveniently store taller items. To create more room, you can use the 60/40 split-folding rear seats to get up to 59.8 cubic feet of space.
You’ll have the option to store longer items either inside or out. The Fold-Forward Front-Passenger seat let’s you slide boxes up to the front for help when you’re moving, or you can use the available roof rails to keep things like kayaks or your Christmas tree outside during your drive.
