2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review
For decades Jeep has been the standard bearer for SUVs. The iconic look of the Jeep Grand Cherokee brings luxury to a capable SUV for drivers in Somerset and New Bedford. So, how does the latest model hold up to its predecessors? Stateline Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram looks at what it can do for you in this 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee review.
2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Performance
The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a lot of options for how to power this stylish and capable SUV. There are five available engines, all of which work with a versatile 8-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is a 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) to help its performance. This engine is able to get up to 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The second choice is an eco-friendly 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel engine that gets great performance with 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The next choice is both larger and more powerful. It’s a 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine that gets up to 360 horsepower 390 lb-ft of torque. Adding even more power, the next step up is a 6.4L HEMI® SRT V8 engine that’s capable of getting 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful engine available is a 6.2L Supercharged HEMI® V8 engine that can generate 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. With all these options for power under the hood the Jeep Grand Cherokee can carry a lot of cargo for you. It has a payload capacity of 1,380 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 7,200 pounds.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Off-Roading
Like all Jeep models, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee was built to be versatile through any conditions and capable with off-roading. There are three 4×4 systems to choose from. The first is the Quadra-Trac I®. It gives you a continuous balance of torque but transfers it to the axle with the most traction if any slippage occurs. The second 4×4 system is the Quadra-Trac II®. It features the same balance and torque transfer ability but adds a two-speed low transfer case for even greater traction and control. The final 4×4 system is the Quadra-Drive® II. It’s able to transfer 100% of the torque to the rear wheels with an Electronic Limited-Slip Differential. This gives it a 44.2:1 crawl ratio. In each of these systems, you have the ability to manually adjust the drivetrain to match whatever conditions you’re facing. The Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System gives you a dial on your dashboard that you can switch between five modes: Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud, and Rock. Your suspension also helps with off-roading. The Quadra-Lift® Air Suspension is able to raise and lower the Jeep Grand Cherokee to either help with aerodynamics or improve its ground clearance. With a sealed underbody and a 10.8-inch ground clearance, it’s capable of driving through up to 20 inches of water. Plus, there’s an available skid plate so you can feel comfortable attacking steep inclines with its 36.1-degree approach angle.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior
The stylish interior of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee is designed to comfortably carry five people and lots of cargo. There’s a total passenger volume of 105.4 cubic feet. Up front the driver and front passenger each get 39.9 inches of headroom and 40.3 inches of front legroom. In the second row there’s 39.2 inches of rear headroom and 38.6 inches of rear legroom. Going across there’s 56.2 inches of rear hip room and 58 inches of rear shoulder room so that it’ll be a comfortable ride even when there’s three passengers in the back seat. Behind the seats there’s 36.3 cubic feet of cargo room in the trunk.
