Grand Cherokee Powertrain
If you like your SUV to provide a hefty kick of power, you’ll probably be happy with any of the four engines available with the new Grand Cherokee.
The standard engine is the classic 3.6L Pentastar® V6 that delivers 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, you can tow up to 6,200 pounds when properly equipped. If you want even more pulling power, any of the other three engines make for a great pick, as well:
- 5.7L HEMI® V8: 360 horsepower, 390 lb-ft of torque
- 6.4L HEMI® SRT V8: 475 horsepower, 470 lb-ft of torque
- 6.2L Supercharged HEMI® V8: 707 horsepower, 645 lb-ft of torque
With any of these, you can to upwards of 7,200 pounds when properly equipped. This is enough to take a good-sized RV camping or carry a boat to the bay.
Handling in the New Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has a reputation for impressive handling, but did you know that it’s also incredibly versatile? Front-wheel drive (FWD) comes standard, but the available Quadra-Trac I® and Quadra-Trac II® 4-wheel drive (4WD) systems come with the Select-Terrain® Traction Management System.
This system allows you to choose between up-to-5 different settings to optimize your performance for the terrain you face. Available drive modes are:
You can also customize your suspension with the available Quadra-Lift® Air Suspension system. In fact, this system can improve off-road performance by extending your ground clearance to 10.8 inches in Off-Road I and Off-Road II modes.
Other suspension modes include Normal for everyday driving and Aero for improved efficiency. Park mode also helps you climb in-and-out of your SUV more easily and gracefully by lowering your suspension.
2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior Review
While the new Grand Cherokee may be tough under the hood, you’ll likely find that it’s incredibly comfortable inside the cockpit. As you get behind the wheel, you’ll be greeted by available premium leather and suede seats. These can be heated or ventilated to help you stay comfortable, whatever the weather.
The Grand Cherokee interior is accented by available metal trim and available polished open pore wood inlays. Ambient lighting is also available with selectable colors and gives your cabin a personalize feel and relaxed vibe.
You’ll have a quiet drive thanks to the Acoustic Glass feature that works to keep unwanted engine, wind, and other ambient street sounds out so that you can enjoy your music or chat with passengers. In total, you can enjoy 105.4 cubic feet of passenger volume and seat a total of five people.
To open the space even more, pull back the shade on the available CommandView® Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof and watch the cabin fill with sunlight.
