Jeep Grand Cherokee vs Ford Explorer
Have you been looking for a new SUV in Somerset, New Bedford, or Fall River? If so, you’re probably looking for one that has all-weather and all-terrain capability for your next adventure and the style you need for a night out on the town.
To help ensure that you choose the SUV that’s right for you, our team here at Stateline CJDR has created this 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. 2019 Ford Explorer comparison. You’ll learn more about both models, so you can make an educated decision.
Power and Capability
If you’re in need of a powerful SUV, you’ll want to go with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Its standard 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine cranks out 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It outperforms the standard 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 of the Ford Explorer, which produces 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque.
You’ll have more options with the new Grand Cherokee, too. It has four available engines, where the Explorer only has three.
When the journey leads you to off-road trails, you’ll need an SUV that’s equipped with an advanced 4-wheel drive system. The Ford Explorer offers an available Intelligent 4WD system to optimize traction, but the Grand Cherokee has a total of four available 4WD systems. The most advanced is the Quadra-Trac® Active On-Demand 4×4 System. It monitors for wheel slip and adjusts output accordingly with no driver interaction needed.
If you bring some of your friends along for the journey, you’ll want to make sure everyone can choose their own comfort level. The Jeep Grand Cherokee gives you the opportunity to do just that with its standard Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control. The Explorer only offers this feature on the higher trim levels.
Both models offer you the style and premium comfort of available leather-trimmed seats. Plus, they also offer available leather-wrapped steering wheels and shift knobs.
In these SUVs, you’ll get the chance to connect to all the music you love. The Grand Cherokee interior comes with both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration. Meanwhile, the Explorer offers the SYNC® 3 system. When your favorite tune comes on, however, the available 825-watt, 19-speaker Harman Kardon® sound system on the Jeep Grand Cherokee will give you more listening pleasure than the 500-watt, 12-speaker system available on the Explorer.
Innovative Safety Features
Both SUVs come outfitted with a variety of safety and driver-assistive features. The question is: Which one offers more peace of mind?
The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes standard with Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross Path Detection (RCPD), so you’ll have more confidence whether you’re cruising down the highway or backing out of a tight parking space. The Explorer offers a similar feature known as the Blind Spot Information System, but it’s only available on higher trim levels.
Finally, both vehicles offer an available Adaptive Cruise Control system, which monitors the flow of traffic to keep you moving at a consistent speed while maintaining a safe distance between you and the car ahead. It’ll make both your everyday commute and the next road trip much more streamlined.
