Can a Jeep Wrangler Pull a Cargo Trailer?

Yes. You can easily tow a cargo trailer or any other trailer that is within the weight range of the Jeep Wrangler. It's rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

In order to tow that weight safely, you'll also need a trailer hitch with the same rating. Luckily, the available Trailer-Tow package comes with a Class II receiver hitch that also has a matching 3,500-pound towing capacity. This package also includes:

When properly equipped, the 3,500-pound maximum towing capacity of the Wrangler stems from the powerful engine under its hood. Your choices include:

• 285-horsepower, 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine
• 270-horsepower, 2.0L Turbo engine
• 260-horsepower, 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine
• 470-horsepower, 6.4L HEMI® V8 engine

If you want to tow past where the pavement ends, the Jeep Wrangler is the SUV for you. It comes equipped with one of three available 4x4 systems. The first is the part-time Command-Trac® 4x4 system, which delivers 4-wheel traction when you engage it. The available full-time Selec-Trac® 4x4 System, however, automatically switches between 2- and 4-wheel drive depending on the conditions.

The available Rock-Trac® 4x4 system is the most off-road-ready 4x4 system available. It comes with a 4:1 low gear ratio that's ideal for rock crawling and also handy when towing. It provides a lot more low-end torque that gives you a smooth performance when hauling a trailer.

The Jeep Wrangler can come equipped with a bevy of smart technology that'll make it easy to take full advantage of its towing capacity. It all starts with the standard ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera. It comes with dynamic gridlines that'll help you line up the SUV and the trailer before hitching.

Once you're out on the road, available Blind Spot Monitoring will help give you more confidence with a trailer in tow. It'll alert you to vehicles riding alongside you, so you can change lanes and merge more easily.

When towing off-road with the Wrangler, a slow and steady pace is key to making sure you don't end up getting stuck. Luckily, the available Selec-Speed® Control makes it easy to maintain the ideal speed. Once you select your low speed, it'll keep you moving at the same pace, so you can focus on the obstacles ahead.
